Good Doc: Using Personal Examples and Analyzing
Please make sure that the examples you use are from your own experience or observation.
It's also important to understand the idea that gender is a social construct (and not something that is universal or occurs "naturally"). Please make sure you understand this idea. We have discussed it many times in class, but it is also explained well in this short video:
In addition to looking at Logos, Ethos, and Pathos (please see the link from last class) you also need to know different rhetorical elements, which I explained here.

Your homework is locate Rupaul as an author. (Hint: this is tricky because I have not yet provided a text. So you don't know the stance/tone/purpose. But do your research on this person, learn about their other projects/interests/positions, and make the best guess that you can.)

Stance: As he stated in his autobiography: "You can call me he. You can call me she. You can call me Regis and Kathie Lee; I don't care! Just as long as you call me." Responding to social prejudice of gender, he dresses up himself as drag queen and enjoys being a woman. He doesn’t care what others think about him. He shows that gender cannot be the barrier of seeking ourselves. Just do what you want and enjoy it.
Tone: confident, firm, persuasive, calm, proud
He is confident and proud on who him is and what he does.
Purpose: RuPaul said, “What other people think of me is not my business. What I do is what I do. How people see me doesn’t change what I decide to do. I don’t see me as one thing or another. I choose projects that excite me. I think the problem is that people refuse to understand what drag is outside of their own belief system.” Nowadays, people still have a prejudice of gender. Their thoughts are still limited by gender. It is necessary to realize that what we want to be is much more important than what we should look like. He using himself and his TV show tell us that do not care what others think, just be yourself. There’s no law said that men cannot act like women.

He has created many discographies, videographers and filmographies. He became the first drag queen.
Stance: He responds that he does not mind people call him ‘He’ or Her’. He just wants to be his own woman. He wants to be a human following own heart.

Rupaul is regarded as all-round and business-minded, he is the most representative drag queen in America.
Stance: He insisted that people were born naked and the rest was drag. It means people should confidently face himself and be himself .
